Krampus The Movie

In 2015, a horror comedy movie named, Krampus came out in theatres.

It brought a unique vision on the holidays and taught us about a character that has been part of human history for a long while.

THE SUMMARY

Little does he know, this lack of festive spirit has unleashed the wrath of Krampus: a demonic force of ancient evil intent on punishing non-believers.

What To Expect

When watching the movie, I didn’t know what to expect. Horror comedy is what, the Gremlins? I didn’t have much to base my ideas on concerning the movie. However, I won’t lie and say I expected it to be a disaster.

I was wrong. The movie’s paced at a good rhythm, and the dysfunctional family well represented. I could relate to the family reunion and feel the pain of the mother and young boy.

I have to say that because my expectations were low, maybe I was overly surprised, but I must say it is worth a watch.

The Visual

The overall feel of the movie is quite enjoyable. The ambiance is festive until it changes and reminds you that Krampus is the name of the film. The snowstorm, the winter wonderland switching to the next Ice Age is impressive.

Some might say they should’ve used CGI. I mean they chose right by dealing with costumes and prosthetics. I enjoyed the puppets and costumes. A well-done job, and while some might say it is the comedic part, I suppose it brought more feelings to the movie.

Krampus

The creature, when shown, is very massive in size which I would expect it to be from what I know of Krampus. The interactions with the character are brief but well thought out. I liked how the creative team decided on his looks and his face. Some might think they missed the mark, but his appearance to me fits the story.

The meaning of the creature given by the main boy’s grandma is perfect just as is the definition of his origins. Many countries believed in Krampus and so, some differences in appearance occurs, however, the one from the movie gathers them all and creates a beautiful mix.

The Ending

The climax and resolution are unique. It makes it all worthwhile. The movie isn’t long, around ninety minutes. It didn’t need more or less. It is a great ride and worth watching.

If you are looking for a movie that is different for the holidays, Krampus is undoubtedly a good one! PG-13, it’s a nice one.

It teaches how much we changed our values over the decades when it comes to the holidays. It shows, directly in our faces, how much families do not seem to understand what Christmas means to some of us.

If you ever watch the movie, watch it with an open mind. It’s a good movie with a villain that might not be such a villain but a reminder of what the holidays should be about throughout the world.
