Netflix’s Gothic The Haunting of Hill House

The Haunting of Hill House is an eminently recommended Netflix series. It’s not like your average paranormal series. It has a psychological factor at play, and it’s one of those series you must start from the beginning and watch in order until the very end to understand the magnitude of the house’s heritage.

The Official Summary of The Haunting of Hill House

The Hill House

When my husband suggested I watch the series with him, I was up for it. My sister, Kendra Hale, talked about it, and it had me intrigued. Of course, I jumped on the occasion, but when the first episode started, I wondered what was going on. Netflix‘s gothic The Haunting of Hill House began.

As a gothic fan, I usually am attracted to series that have meaning, and The Haunting of Hill House sure has depth to it. I love it when the music is adding to the story, and again, it is quite magnificent.

The location must reflect the ambiance and give me some history, the series checked all the boxes, and yet, I was not sure.

There are many characters right off the bat. The series has the viewer jump from the past to the present quite often from the start, which makes it a little confusing at times.

One family of seven in total is quite a lot, involved at all times, moreover when going between their young childhood to their adulthood!

Giving The Haunting of Hill House A Chance

There was no way my confusion would have me stop at one episode and watched one more episode, and one more, and another until the series end. My desire to know more outweigh the confusion I had in the first two episodes trying to remember all the names.

The overall feel of the mansion is quite detailed and dreamy for someone like me who enjoys old architecture and horror. The layout of the house is so that you understand it quite quickly and can situate yourself without losing your mind.

The story takes place in specific rooms and halls; therefore, there is no puzzle for the viewer questioning where they are in the mansion.

The decoration and attention to detail are brilliant. It has this vintage look bringing you back to the Victorian period. It had me wonder why not making that house their forever home! Then again, I’m a paranormal freak.

The immensity of the house is overwhelming. If you think about all the rooms and this one place, you want to know more. There’s this room with a red door grasp your attention from the beginning.

The Haunting

The series doesn’t rely on jump scares to give the view of the horror factor. It doesn’t need to because the story itself is brilliant. Unlike many paranormal series, this one instead tackles problems of today such as mental illness, denial, rejection, addiction, and grudge — the viewer witnesses what one summer in one house did to a family of seven people.

The viewer sees the story of that one summer through the eyes of each family member. The viewer can relate to one of the family members while feeling heartbroken for another or anger.

One can feel their pain and the burden they all had to carry along their lives and how it affected their relationship with parents and siblings.

Jumping from one decade to one that follows can have one wonder how it all comes together. This maze is a chaotic work of intelligence. It’s a mind-blowing experience to follow the story and see it all come together with one scene after the next.

Hill House Without Spoilers

The series is still entirely new. I know some people are on the fence about watching yet another paranormal shows. This one is not a waste of time because it is a Paranormal Drama and nota simple jump scare story.

If you enjoy Stephen King or stories such as The Haunting, The Mist, or Silent Hill even, this is impressive. It has this dark factor without too much paranormal redundancy because we jump from one sibling to the next. You know, “show, don’t tell.”

The mansion is the core of the story, but what brings it alive are the people within it. Skeptics, believers, deniers, psychics, they are all united under one roof.

You have those who judge without a doubt they are right. They even believe they are helping while you have those who beg to believe the haunting is real. Sounds familiar? Watch it.

The Haunting of Hill House of All Time

If you watched the series, you know my confusion when Netflix confirmed a second season. If you didn’t watch it, let me tell you it’s a puzzle trying to see how they could make a second season.

Can it be like American Horror Story, where we see a family at a time?

What I know is that The Haunting of Hill House was an excellent piece for a paranormal series. It’s hard nowadays to create an original good gothic story.

I know the first episode might be a little hard to understand but keep going, it’s worth it. Netflix’s gothic The Haunting of Hill House just began.

From a Gothic horror fan, this series is gold…so, come on in, you’re expected.
