Sabrina Is Back On Netflix With Chilling Adventures

In the 90s and 00s, the series of Sabrina The Teenage Witch was one of the rare cute shows I watch. I had a taste for dark series, as you would guess. Now, Netflix brought back Sabrina from the dead in a unique way.

The Original Sabrina The Teenage Witch Summary

Sabrina Is Back On Netflix With Chilling Adventures, but first, here is the original blurb of the show!

Sabrina Spellman is a teenager with magical powers who comes from a long line of witches. Until going away to college, she lived with her wacky aunts, who would teach her to use her witchcraft wisely, and Salem, the talking black cat, who always has a scheme up his paw.

As a high-school student, Sabrina is less judicious about using her powers than when she enters adulthood. The series is based on a 1960s comic-book series of the same name and an animated TV series that originally aired in the 1970s.” — YouTube

The Not So Chilling Archie Adventures

While I watched Sabrina in my teen years, I had no idea The Teenage Witch was part of the Archie universe. I was never a fan of the Riverdale boy and his gang, so learning that fact had me question the new Netflix Sabrina.

However, I’m not one who judges without getting my idea or investigation. I might not be a fan of the dark Riverdale on-going series, but I can recognize the effort in bringing a darker tone to it, which intrigued me.

Sabrina not only was a comic book in its days, but she also lives in Riverdale’s sister town of Greendale, which has its mysteries and mystical roots. The universe might be the same, but I was hoping the series wouldn’t lose itself in the Archie ambiance, and it didn’t.

Sabrina Chilling Adventures

In the new Sabrina, we explore a darker paranormal world. We meet with the new Aunt Zelda and Hilda. Even the beloved Salem is back but in a unique way. We can notice his character split in two from the original series.

Salem was a witch under a spell to keep him not only has a cat but also under house arrest. For that reason, the animatronic cat went under a split of personality between a real shifting black cat and cousin Ambrose. One man, I assure the viewer can love!

The Spellman Aunts are not quite the same, and yet I could recognize the sophisticated Zelda versus the loving, cuddly Hilda. The bound between the two sisters is now a crucial part of the show bringing more depth into the series.

Sabrina Is Back

Rolling with the punches is not something part of the show because everything is under precise calculation. Bringing a beloved show back is one thing many are ready to judge even before it starts. So, when Sabrina first aired, I thought it would be a disaster.

I am proud to say I was wrong because this show is worth a watch and a second and third. The Sabrina universe is an enjoyable one for a gothic audience as well as anyone.

Everything from the music to the clothing and style that is Decade Neutral makes it a unique series. I, for one, enjoyed the vintage word spells, the Cerberus Books, and the backstory of the characters. Everything and everyone has a place.

Sabrina is back and stronger than ever before, but moreover, Sabrina Is Back On Netflix With Chilling Adventures!

Back On Netflix

Netflix brings the series many circles of hell away from the cutie Melissa Joan Hart’s portrayal of the teen witch. While the heart of the series remains, the entire witchery takes a darkly sinister turn.

Sabrina doesn’t make little cutie potions anymore. She is part of a darker form of art. A church of night, some could see right through the name and call it for what it was, the Church of Satan. While fantastic for television, it hurt more than one practice when people learned those were real practices.

What is essential to remember while watching Sabrina is that it is entertainment. I feel the obligation to mention it due to tragic events taking place when Satanism, Wicca, as well as Paganism, are a crucial part of the show.

*** Not to confuse with Anton Szandor LaVey’s Church of Satan.

The representation of those practices is not in their true form. It is for entertainment purposes only. Nothing of what you see in Sabrina is real. There are no sacrifices. Women are just as important as men in those beliefs. Satanism is not what people think it is.

Please, before judging a practice, do research and try remaining objective while doing so. Paganism and Wicca are about nature and respect more than anything else. Satanism has roots in Mother Nature.

Netflix With Chilling Adventures

All two seasons available on Netflix, the third season airing on Friday, January 24th, 2020, I know what I’m doing!

Each season has a role and brings the bigger plot forward while subplots are unraveling. The deeper the viewer goes into Sabrina’s life, the darker it gets. We are not talking just light versus darkness, but more obscure than that.

Sabrina is a paranormal comedy series with a twist. I can easily recognize some influence from The Craft, Practical Magic, among other movies and series. But, Sabrina is not without its uniqueness that I fell for; to me, it’s like watching a live-action Hotel Transylvania The Series! For those who know me, that says a lot!

I highly recommend Sabrina, but please, again, remember that it is entertainment and nothing more. Don’t anger witches! Haha!

Enjoy the new season of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and let us know what you think of Greendale!
